Genre

The records in our collection being offered for sale cover the years 1950 to 1979 approx, although there may be some earlier or later records that have “slipped in”.

The general category of the music is Popular and covers Rock (including rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, disco & heavy metal), Pop (including doo-wop, & country), Blues (including R&B, gospel, skiffle & spiritual) Folk, Jazz (Modern & Traditional) Soul, and Reggae.

Apart from hit records by all the most popular artists of the time, there is a lot of rarer vinyl by lesser known artists.

All records and CD’s are used (i.e. played at least once) and nothing is sealed, as this can lead to misunderstandings about “original”, “unopened”, etc.

Everyone knows it’s too easy these days to reseal a previously opened record, right?

Unless stated otherwise in the catalogs, all records and CD’s contain original songs by original artists.

Catalogs    back to top

Good Sounds maintains five catalogs available from the website table of contents on
the left hand side.

The pressings are mostly Canadian, with American or UK labels comprising the rest.

The catalog initially displays all data alphabetically by artist's surname, although many other search patterns are possible.  Individual artists with the same surname letter can be found using the alphabet letter across the top of the catalog.  More specific searches can be made using the 'Find' option on the menu bar.  Surnames, song titles, record label & genre are some search examples.

Many EP’s were issued with just the Artist’s name, making these difficult to identify in the catalogs. In such cases we have given the record number as a possible guide. EP’s normally had 4 tracks (2 per side) and ran at 45 rpm, but some had 3 tracks and some ran at 33 1/3 rpm with 6 tracks (3 per Side) Most of these variations are noted in the “Comments” column. Unfortunately, with LP’s and EP’s, it is not possible to list all the tracks in the catalogs.

Inquiries regarding record and CD content are always welcome.

Pricing Policy    back to top

Record pricing is listed per item in each catalog.

Good Sounds record pricing is based on a combination of the marketability of the artist and the condition of the record.

The best way to illustrate this is to ask:

“Who would pay a fortune for a mint recording of an artist hardly anyone has heard of?”

Having said that, the condition of the record is still (almost) everything. The following publications are all used as price guides to the records shown in the various catalogs:

Some Dealers and Collectors claim that the advent of Internet music sharing websites and CD’s has adversely affected used record prices and, therefore, published prices are all on the high side. Good Sounds has no evidence of this, and we feel the price any record will bring depends on how much a buyer wants it and is prepared to pay.
